Hungry Girls

This will have to be short since Richard is taking us shopping in a few minutes.

First, Willa just continues to be wonderful. As she's getting more comfortable with us, she's feeling like she can make a fuss or two, but overall she's just doing great. I've never seen a baby eat like she's eaten today. She takes whole bottles in minutes, a then fusses for more. I swear she's grown noticeably since we got her 48 hours ago. It's funny to see the difference in the two babies in our group: Willa is chunky(at least by Chinese orphanage baby standards), a good eater, a clown, and really pretty mellow; the other baby is delicate, a bit shy, and a picky eater. Both are beautiful and healthy and great girls, but so different.

Today I had my first experience at being a spectacle. Richard took us to a well known pavilion that draws lots of tourist groups. Willa decided she was starving and so I had no choice but to sit down and feed her right on the steps to the pavillion. This large group of Chinese tourists came by (these groups are always lead by a young woman carrying a yellow flag) and started firing a million questions at Richard. They were from a region that doesn't have a lot of adoption and knew nothing of the issue. They wanted to know what was going on, how it was that I had a Chinese baby. When he explained they smiled, called Willa a "lucky baby", and continued to gawk at me while their guide tried get them interested in the history of this mural that was on the wall behind me.

Nicole got a dose of Chinese medicine today. Her stomach has been upset and I've been dosing her with Imodium. Richard shook her head at this, went right out and bought her some mysterious green Chinese medicine that comes in glass vials and tastes really nasty. Nicole sucked it down dutifully and in about two hours sat up, announced she was hungry, and has been feeling much perkier.

More tomorrow.

Theresa I am so thrilled for you! My hands are even shaking as I type this, as I can only imagine your excitement. Willa sounds like such a beautiful, sweet, happy baby. She must know what a good mom she has in you. I can't wait to meet her.
Love,

She knows to fuss when Sound of Music gets sappy--ha! She's already the child of academics.

The sisterly bonding sounds great. ALL the bonding sounds great.

John wants to know if you can bring back any of the icky green stuff that banishes stomach aches and makes one perky.

Cheers,

Lizanne
